Product no.: GLPD 1
These three stones show beautifully preserved graptolite fossils. Graptolites are an extinct class of
marine polyp-like colony-forming animals.
The pieces come from the Lower Silurian and are about 440 million years old.
The site where these fossils were found is one of the world's most important graptolith sites, namely
the former Weinbergbruch of Hohenleuben in Eastern Germany. This Geotope is now strictly protected
and has been declared an international natural monument. The old finds offered here come from the
collection of a deceased local collector.
All three stones are unbroken, two of them show fossils on the front- and backside. Various species
have been preserved here such as Spirograptus and Monograptus.
Great contrast - silver colored fossils on dark matrix.
Rarely offered material without any manipulations.
