Hyena Atlas vertebra

 This first vertebra (atlas) of a hyena comes from Pleistocene layers.

The fossil comes from a gravel pit near Bensheim in Hesse.

It is unbroken, completely preserved and has no manipulations at all.

Fossils of hyenas are highly sought after by collectors and museums as they are rare finds.
